For one evening only, Pavilion Club presents a rare private viewing of six iconic works from the William John Kennedy collection, photographed in New York during the 1960s. At the centre of the evening is Andy Warhol Holding the Marilyn Acetate II — the only known photographic record of the acetate used by Andy Warhol to create his most celebrated Marilyn Monroe prints. First exhibited at the Sidney Janis Gallery in 1967, the photograph captures a pivotal moment in the evolution of Pop Art. Following this presentation, the work will travel to the National Portrait Gallery for its forthcoming exhibition commemorating the centenary of Marilyn Monroe — offering members an exclusive private viewing before it enters one of the world’s most distinguished institutional exhibitions.
The evening will also include a special forty-minute documentary screening exploring the rediscovery and enduring significance of William John Kennedy’s early photographs of Andy Warhol.
